THE CHRISTCHURCH COAL SUPPLY.
CIIRISTCHURCH, August 2. The Industrial Association is working energetically with a view of securing the construction of branch railways to connect a number of coal mines in the Malvern district with the existing railway system. At present there is no brown coal in the market, the so-called roads from the mines being impassable. A total length of nine miles would connect the four principal mines, at an estimated cost of £27,000. The haulage return is estimated at not less than £9,000 per annum. A special meeting is convened for Monday night, at which the district members are to be present.
