THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION.

The Chicago invention closed its labours on Friday by tho nomination of Blame and Logan. At the opening of the convention Blame, Arthur, Edmunds, Hawley, Logan, John Sherman, Lincoln, and W. T. Sherman were nominated. The first ballot resulted : — Blame, 334J ; Arthur 276; Edmunds, 93; Hawloy, 13; Logan, 64^ ; John Sherman, 32 ; Lincoln, 4 ; and W. T. Shorman, 2. Blame's friends were confident of his success, and their feelings were gratified by his success on tho fourth ballot, when having rolled up the royal vote of 544, his nomination was declared unanimous. On the first ballot he had 334J votes to 278 for Arthur ; on the second he had advanced to 349 ; the third showed an increase to 375, but fell far short of what his supporters hoped ; on the fourth, however, Logan, by telegraph ordered his supporters to throw their entire strength for Blame, and the result was that the solid vote of Illinois, 44, was cast for tho Maine man, bringing his total up to 414, three more than were required for nomination. When Ohio was reached Foraker moved thatßlaine be nominated by acclamation, but Roosevelt, of New York, the chronic malcontent, insisted on the call of the roll, which was proceeded with, l'esulting in a total of 544 for Blame. After this his nomination was made unanimous. At the evening session Jno. A. Logan, of Illinois, was nominated for Vico-President by a solid voto of all the States except New York, which cast ono vote for Foraker and six for Greshani. The convention then adjourned sine die. Mr Tilclcn has declined nomination as the Democratic candidate for the Piesiclency. It is said that tho refusal is owing to the strength of tho Blame nomination.
