UNIVERSITY COLLEGE COUNCIL.

(From the "Auckland Star," July 18.) The monthly meeting of the University College Council was held on Wednesday afternoon, there being present : — Sir G. M. O'Rorke, Mr Justice Gillies, Bishop Covvie, Rev. D. Bruce, Judge Smith, Rev. A. Reid, Mr E. Hesketh, Colonel Haultain, and Dr, Campbell. Sir G-. M. O'Rorke was elected Chairman for tho ensuing year, and in taking the chair, said that, if re-elected to the House, he would do all in his power towards having provision made for a suitable building for the College. The registrar reported that 63 season tickets had been purchased for Professor Brown's popular lectures. It was resolved that calendars be distributed gratuitously to students this year only, The question

if a reduction in the fee of registration of graduates to two guineas was adjourned till next meeting, Recommendations that the College building and Admiralty House shonld be connected with the telephone system as to the necessity of suitable accommodation for students of chemistry and physics were referred to committees : — Bishop Cowie, Mr Justice Gillies, and Sir Maurice O'Rorke were appointed to deal with matters connected with the College library.
