THE ALL ENGLAND ELEVEN.

From the following letter which has been received by Mr A. Dewes, Honorary Secretary of the Auckland Cricket Association, ifc will be seen that the proposed tour of an All England cricket team through New Zealand has beon doned:—Sydney, July Ith, 1881.— A. Dewes, Esq., Hon. Roc. Auckland C. A. : Sir,— l duly received your letter of June 27th, and have considered its contents. I regret to say that seeing the difficulties in the way of charging for admission to the Domain for the proposed match to be played by the All England Eleven at Auckland, and that things are in a similar state aa when I giloted the last professional team through New ealand, I shall be compelled to abandon the project of arranging a tour through your colony. I may inform you that the visit of Shaw's eleven to New Zealand resulted in a loss, and that at j Auckland numbers of people who cheerfully paid on the first day of the match refused to do so on the other days. Even if suitable terms were offered by your Association the cricketers in the Southern portion of New Zealand demand such a high charge for the use of their ground as to lay a positive prohibition on the visit of an English e^ en. Trusting your Association ma y before long have a ground of its own and be in a position to offer fair and reasonable terms to an English or any other visiting team, I am, yours faithfully, John Conway.
