DESTRUCTIVE FIRES.

Dunedin, July 9 A four-boomed house at Pine Hill, owned and occupied by William Johnston, carpenter, was burned down yesterday afternoon. The house ■was insured for £250, and the furniture for £50, in the South British Office. A fire broke last night in a small cottage which had been on fire on Saturday evening. This time it was completely destroyed. The cottage was occupied by women of ill repute, and was insured in the New Zealand for £150. The police regard the matter with suspicion. Wellington, July 9. A fire occurred at Pine-street at one o'clock this morning, which destroyed two cottages occupied by Messrs Hook and Duries respectively. The buildings were owned by Mr Kershaw, of Kilbirino. The fire occurred in the kitchen of Mr Hook's house, and when discovered had a good hold. Hook loses the whole of his furniture, and Duries only saved a few articles. Hook's furniture was insured for -95 in the National Office, but Duries was uninsured. The cottages were intuied for £100 each in the Colonial < office. Gisborne, July 9. Fire broke out at four this morning '< t Skilliocom's fellmongery, Ormond. Fotr thousand bales of sheepskins, eight bales of pressed and scoured wool, and the building were burned down. No cause is assigned. The building was insured for lICO in the National Office, and there is an open policy on the wool in the Union Company.
