THE WESTERN SPRINGS PROPERTY. The Council's Offer Accepted. Auckland, July 9.
After negotiations extending over a number of mor ths wo learn that Mr Edgcumbe, the proprietor of the Western Springs estate, lias agreed to accept the offer of the City Council, £10,700, for the property. Wo believo that the first demand made by Mr Edgcumbo for the property was something like £20,000. The Couucil declined to have anything to do with it at that price, and it was subsequently put up for sale by auction, the best pifer for it being £10,000, at which figure it was withdrawn. The satisfactory settlement of this mattor must be highly satisfactory to citizens, as, to a certain extent, it insures the purity of the city water supply,
