The first case of a series to be instituted by Mr Macgregor Hay on behalf of the natives whose horses were seized at Pukekura by the sheriff under writ of the Supreme Court, was heard yesterday at the R.M. The evidence of defendant was to the effect that the horse which he bought at the sheriff 1 s auction belonged to Wakataho one of party against whom the writ was issued. His Worship gave judgment tor plaintiff, the horse to be returned, and defendant to pay £33 It's damages and £23 costs. In the event of the horse nflt being given up, defendant to pay a further sum of £80. The decision caused considerable uneasjnftss, as a large number of horses were bought af, the same sale.
