Thames, Last Night. Information has been received to the effect that an elderly man named Jobri Wilson was drowned at Paeroa last night while endeavouring to get aboard of the steamer Aroha. The body was found a few minutes after the accident occurred; but life was extinct. Deceased was formerly a publican at the Thames.

In the Star contempt case, Mr Stout appearing for plaintiffs, and Mr Hagget for the paper, the latter put in answering an affidavit stating that the declarations' and defence were published without comment solely us news, and therefore could not prejudice any person reading them i that if the publication is contempt the p.iper had no knowledge thereof, arid disclaims such intention. Justice Wiliiads reserved judgment.
