MINING NEWS.
Nkw Find. —On Saturday last the winze on the No. 2 reef was broken through to the low level, and came down fair over tiie end of the cross-cut. From the time sinking was commenced until finished gold was constantly met with, and from level to level the reef may be considered payable, the best stone obtained having been found from 65 to 70 feet down. The tramway to connect the low level with the shoot was completed in- the beginning of the week, and th^e drive on the reef northward from the oro«!«*-ent \vq«s nt once started by fr.he contractors. Driving southwards has also been commenced. The lode, as it now shows in both faces, is a fine body of stone about 5 feet in thickness. In the Arizona level driving has been resumed on the reef northward, and from \he present healthy appearance ol things in that direction there is every likelihood that a long stretch of the lode will yet be found payable. The stopes in this part of the mine are yielding large quantities of quartz, there being in places fully eight. feH of crushing stuff, the quality of which, as will he sppii from the last battery returns, is quite equal to anything previously obtained. Excellent stone is also being got from the block over the No; 2 level, and taking' the mine all through it may he safely asserted that at no former time has it looked better than it does at present.
