The usual wearisome delay took place bofore the flag was lowered to a good start, , Bristol and Mirabeau being the first to move, and tho latter, on the outside, taking up the running at the distance, led '. for a few strides, when Revenge in the ) centre shot to the front, and just led War- , wick, Goldfinch, Here's Luck, and L Mirabeau past the stand, while the lot were whipped in by Stockdale and , Bristol. Goldfinch led over the ran crossing ' and past Cutts' by a length, followed by [ Warwick, who had Here's Luck and Le&bia ' at his girths, the others well packed a couple of lengths off, and whipped in by | The Gem, Stockdale, and rapid. After , passing the seven fux-longs post Here's , Luck ran to the front and led Goldfinch and ' Mirabeau two lengths along the back of the j course, Lesbia, Warwick, Phyllis, Comet '. and Jh&sie following on close. When half-way up the hill, Comet on the , outside ran up second, and was with- , in a length ot Here's Luck, when pass- [ ing the Trainers' Stand, and aftor them succeeded Mirabeau, Rapid, Phyllis, ! Jessie, and Le&bia in cluster, but a few • strides further on Lesbia and Here's Luck were beaten, and Rapid and Comet led round the bond and turned into the ( straight on close terms, attended by Here's . Luck, Phyllis, and Jessie ; at the distance , Comet was in front and looked all over a winner, but Rapid and Phyllis were hard ', upon him, and the favourite failing to stay . it out retired when 100 yards from home, and Rapid and Phyllis settled down to fight it out, but had hardly done so, , when M'Grado brought Jesfie with a well- ! timed rush, and the daughter of Kelpie, | responding with her usual gametiess, out- ; paced the pair in the run homo, and | won cleverly by a long half-length from Phyllis, who just boat Rapid for second place ; and then on pretty even terms came Comet,follo\ved four lengths awuy by Hypatia and First Demon.
