THE ROTORUA RAILWAY.
A Press Association telegram from Auckland to the Thames Advertiser says :—: — On Wednesday a deputation fiom the directors and engineers of the Rolonla Kailway Company waited upon the Piuiiiier and asked for tli^ assistance, of Government in having the railway pushed on as speedily as possible. Major Atkinson promised to look into the matter and to facilitate <• s i'.ir as Gownnii'int could, all arrangements necessary to the construction of the line. He also said Government were anxious to see it completed — A deputatnn of directors of tho same railway waited on the Minister for Public Woiks to-day. The Chairman introduced the theMibjcet of the endowment of the lailwiy company b) natives with land in lion of the rating powers provided by th<> " Railway* Conduction and Lmd 'Act,' 1 which the Company will not enforce on the land through which the Second section of the line parses, it being native land. After hearing the viewd of the various members 1 of the deputation, Mr Mitchelson expressed hi 5 w.rm sympathy with the objects of the company, and promised on arrival at Welliiiuton to do all in his power to carry out the wish of the deputation. W he saw no legal difficulties on on his return to Wellington, he would advise the chairman, and take iriunediate steps, so that the company could enter into contracts for the completion of the line.
