Mining affairs have been very dull during the past week. All the mines nre in steady work, but they have not yet got anything of note. At the same time several of them are looking very well, and bid fair to come to the front again shortly. Matawai continues to turn out good pnyablo stone in large quantities from the drive going south. The reef is large and compact. The drive north lias not yet arrived at the shot of gold, but should do so next week. The County Council are calling for tendei'H to improve the road to the battery, and no doubt the work will be pushed on w ith vigour. Viz Ann's, — This mine improves as it is worked. If more men were employed it would likely come well to the front. Matawai, No. '2. — The men are busy trenching and driving, but have not yet .succeeded in picking up anything very rich, though the indications are very good. Unjox Bka(!lf.— The manager is pushing on the work on the leader cut in the intermediate level. The stuff coming out is looking first-rate. The.stopingon new reef irf also showing up well. Tokatka.— There i.s no change to report in the main level. The country continues very hard. Royal Oak. — Driving is continued on reef in new level, but the country is very hard, and progress .slow. The reef btill looks splendid, but no gold has been seen. Success. — The usual work is going oh here, but nothing of any importance obtained.
