THE NEW TORPEDO BOATS. Dunedin, Friday.
Thk ship Lyttelton, which arrived to-day, hag two torpedo boats for the New Zealand Government. The hulls of the vessels measure 63 feet in length, with a breadth of beam of seven feet six inches. They are entirely built of steel, and their water lines are fine indeed, and as they have no decks they will present a very peculiar appearance. For the entire length from the bow to the stem they are covered with a kind of turtle back roof, which gives protection to the crew and increases the engine's pace. There is a Bmall tower of steel, above which, on a flat roof, will be mounted a Nordenfelt gun. The boats have two funnels, and on the fore part will be placed the torpedo, which will be worked by means of a tackle. McEvor's torpedo will be used.
