CROWN LANDS BOARD. Auckland, May 9.
The ordinary meeting of the Crown Lands Board was held yesterday afternoon. Present : Mr D. A. Tole (chief commissioner), Messrs May, M«at, Tonks, and Dr. Campbell. The business consisted of the results of the recent lands sale, held on the sth inst., the proceeds of which were £4,565 8s 3d, and leases of six sections brought £55 per year. The Board gave Mr Tole authority to declare the unsold allotments, rural and suburban, open for private sale. An application from thirty settlers in the VVaikato districts desiring their town grants of 10 acres each. In consequence of the delay in making the application it was determined to send the application to the Minister for Crown lands. An application from Mrs Williams, Gisborne, executrix under her late husband's will to administer and retain possession of the land, was ordered to be sent to Wellington for legal advice Mr H. S. Andrews, of the Mangere Road Board, wrote respecting the recent accident at tho mountain, which resulted in the death of Robert Pollock, and asked that the West Board might have control of the pits, so as to prevent further accident. Mr Andrews is to be informed that control had already been placed in the hands of the Road Board.— Mr Y. E. Rice, Secretary of the Board of Education, applied for a section of twelve acres of land at Okaihau as a reserve for school purposes. Mr Tole said the land was available, but it was homestead land. Inquiry to be made of the local agent as to whether the land had been applied for.— Joseph Prescott applied for a license for prospecting for minerals atCoromandel. It was resolved to grant the license at the next meeting cf the Board, in the event of no valid reason for ref«sing it be received in the interim. — Mr Thomas Webster's application that 600 acres of land be set apart for the growth of tropical plants at Kaiwaka, was referred to the Assistant Surveyor General. A number of applications were received respecting Crown Grants, etc.
Mr Hudson, who takeß the place of Mr A. Y. Macdonald as traffic manager on the AuM.'and Railways, has entered^ upon his duties here. Mr Hudson, we believe, occupied a similar position on the Wellington Railways prior to coming to Auckland,
