LIGHTING BY ATMOSPHERIC GAS. Cambridge, May 12.
Mk Marsdhn, inventor of the patent atmospheric gas generator, has written to the Town Board offering to supply the town with gas. He asks for the sole light to supply the town for fourteen years. The gas supplied would be 18-candlo power, and the price wouldjbe : — For thefirst four years, 15s per thousand feet ; for the succeeding five years, 13s ; and for the balance of the term, 11s. The option would be given to the Board to buy tho works and plant at cost price, and a valuation for the patent rights. Tho proposal has not yet been laid before a meeting of the Board, but individually it has been well received by the members, and ie likely to be given effect to.
The editors of three newspapers in Spain have been condemned to eight years' imprisonment for their comments on public affairs, and two other journals have been denounced by the press censor for articles '• criticising " the king. In the case of the fatal prize fight near Sydney, Lawson, the man who killed Agar, was committed for trial for manslaughter, as were also four others who had taken an active part in the affair, -
