ALARMING EARTHQUAKES.

Blenheim, April 12.— A severe shock of earthquake occured here at 6.50 last night. It lasted seven seconds, and the direction was from north to south. No damage is reported, but the audience in the Wesleyan Church, who were awaiting the service of song, were greatly alarmed by the shock, and several ladies rushed to the door. NjELSON,$April 12. — A very severe shock of earthquake , which lasted fully ten seconds, was experienced here at ten minutes to 7 o'clock, the direction being from north to south. It commenced with a violent shake. No damage ■ was occasioned excepting some glassware broken in private dwellings. Wellington, April 12. The barometer at the Museum records the following in regard to the earthquake : —Sharp jerk from N.N.S., with two circular movements outwards, and displacement to the south, at 6.49 p.m. Duration, 6 seconds. After 5 seconds' interval, there was a long E. and W. undulation, lasting 15 seconds, with slight final displacement towards E. Hawera, April 12. A severe shock of earthquake was felt here at 6.50 last evening. The direction was N.E. to S.W., preceded by a loud rumbling noise. The duration is estimated at from 20 to 30 seconds. It commenced with a prolonged slight shaking, then heavy shocks, and finished with a slight shaking. No damage resulted. Chkistciiukch, Friday. — A smart shock of earthquake took place at ten minutes to 7 p.m. to-day. Masterton, April 12. — A smart shock of earthquake was felt here at ten minutes to seven last evening, accompanied by noise. Lyall, April 12 —A smart shock of earthquake was felt at 6.50 last evening, lasting 10 seconds. Direction, S.E. toN.W. Gueymouth, Friday. — A sharp shock of earthquake was felt this evening at seven o'clock. The motion seemed to be from north to south.
