General Gordon's Position. London, April 4. — In the House of Commons yesterday, the Marquis of Hartington, Foreign Secretary, made a statement denying that Major-General Gordon was in peril in Khartoum, or that he has asked for succour. He added that Major-General 1 Gordon was in a position to retire whenever necessity should arise. During the debate Mr Gladstone made an animated and indignant reply to an attack of feir Stafford Northcote on the Egyptian policy of the Cabiuet. London, April B.— General Graham, who recently led the British troops successfully against the rebels in the neighbourhood of Tokar and Souakim, is now at Cairo.
