CRICKET. Aroha v. Hamilton.
Tins match came off as was arranged j on this day week at Hamilton. Most of the local players left for the scone of action Friday evening, seine breaking the journey at Morrinsville and proceeding early next, morning, otheis travelling right through in the night ; all putting in an appearance at breakfast time at the Waikato Hotel, Mr F. Gaudin's. After breakfast, a stroll round the pretty town of Hamilton was the order of the day ; the players wending their way to the cricket ground in twos and threes between 10 and 1 1 o'clock. Of the ground, we may say it is very suitable as regards size, and a fair wicket was obtainable-, but for outfielding it is very rough indeed. The wickets were pitched about 11.130, and the toss won by Hamilton, who elected to go in ', Messrs Seddou and Napper being the iirst to assume the defensive. No stand was made, thanks to the good bowling of Parker and Bceson, until Forrest went in. This gentlemen soon collared the bowling, and necessitated several change 3, iStecle an I Smith taking v
a turn. The last wicket fell for 00. ! No halt was made, the Aroii r < ciptain at once despatching Messrs Frater and Lawless to do duty for tlio iroldfield. Play hiid not loir? boon resumed, however, before a halt was made for lunch, and .ill adjourned io an excellent spread provided by the Hamilton learn at the Royal Jlotel, Mich's. Play was resumed about 2.80. Tho first three wickets fell very speedily, but when FLawkius and Sleele got logethor they completely changed the order of the day, quickly into the style of the bowling, and displaying some really line play. Tliey sent the ball flvini> ail over the field, the Hamilton team more leather hunting than they hail bargained for, and quickly running up the score to 142 by adninu: 07 and 00 respectively on their own account. Wo cannot speak in too hi^h terms of the very excellent form displayed by both these gentlemen. The innings finished for a total of 180. in their second innings the Hamilton team made 3 I runs for 7 wickets, stumps being drawn at 0 o'clock. The match therefore resulted in a drawn, but with long odds in favour of To Aroha; indeed, there can be no doubt, had there been sufficient time to have finishe I the game, Te Aroha would have easily won on Ist innings. The team returned well pleased with the result of their trip, and thoroughly enjoyed the pleasant, outing. The following aie the scores :—: —
