CHRISTCHURCH AND THE RAILWAY TARIFF. Christchurch, March 21.
At a mooting of the Industrial Association, a resolution was unanimously passed condemnatory of tho new railway tariff. A meeting of tho Canterbury members, Government supporters, convened by MrE. G. Wright, was held yesterday. Messrs B. G. Wright A. P. O'Callaghan, H. Allwright, J. E. Brown, H. Thomson, It. McMillan, H. Wynn Williams, Po3tlethwaito, and F. TV. Pearson were present. It was resolved: "That the above members, viewing the great injustice of tho increased railway taiilF, and the ill-judged time in which it has been brought into operation, strongly protest against the action of the Government, as injurious and oppressive to the constituents, and respectfully but firmly beg that the Government defer giving effect to .so important an alteration in the tariff till tho sanction of Parliament is obtained."
