MINING NEWS. (From the "Coromandel Mail." )
MiNiNd matters have been quiet for the past week, and very few of the claims appear to be doing any good. Vizard's, however, is an exception. During the week they have crushed 19 tons for the first-class return of .">3 ozs. gold, three tons of this giving the magnificent return of 27 ounces, although it is from a very small leader. No doubt this will pay handsomely. Mataicai. — A large quantity of general dirt has already been carted to the battery, and the stuff in the paddock is continually increasing. They will start crushing next week. The reef in main drivs is looking well, and yielding good average crushing dirt. JnU-\n-T\me —Getting fair crushing material from the winze on No. 1 reef. There j is also a little gold showing in No. 2, but nothing of any importance. Albion. — Diiving through splendid country. The slide has taken a sudden bound not thwards. It is intended to have a survey to ascertain the po&ition of the big reef, which yields splendid prospects on the surface, but very little work is done on it. Kapanga. — Getting very rich stone from Scottys reef. The general stuff is also very good. Gorhy. — Average crushing stuff is being obtained from the stopes at the low level. The main drive is still going through splendid country. The reef has taken a sudden turn from its original course, bnt looks first rate. Tohaiea.— The manager is getting a little in the stopes under the van tunnel. The main drive is still very hard j about 120 feet estimated to drive yet before touching the reef, but about 80 feet of it is expected to be in good country. Tributers McNeil and party arc getting good payable stuff from the stopes ; a few specimens ; leader small ; general stuff very good. Union Beach. — The manager reports getting stone showing coarse gold in the drive on the Venus reef, and splendid dish prospects. The drive on the black reef is making good headway. A fine reef is in hand, and the country is very good.
