GROUNDING OF THE WAIHORA

Tin: Union Co.'s steamship Waihora, on leaving the harbour, bound for Melbourne, at 3 o'clock this afternoon, was prevented by the action of the Hood tide upon her bow from slewing at the turn round the lightship, and before hhe could be stopped hhe took the ground on Towai's Point, and listed considerably. On going lull speed astern her bow canted up the harbour, and sho now lies between Towai's Point and the red buoy, close to the latter. She is fast at present, her engines going astern : and as the tide is still flood she may come oil' all right. The circumstances aro similar to those when the Kotomahana grounded here, excepting that bhe is on the other side ot the channel, and the tide at ilood.

The undcn\ liters' surveyor, Captain Thompson, examined the ship thoroughly, and is satislied she is makine; no water. The Waihora r~ in dock at Tort Chalmers. It is not thought there is anything the matter with her, but this cannot be ascertained until the dock is dry.
