IMPUDENT BURGLARY. Auckland, January 19.

A man about thirty named George Evans was arrested by Sergeant McMahon last evening, and remanded this morning at the Police Court, on a charge of breaking and entering the premises of Mrs Mary Coyle, of the Wharf Hotel. On hearing of the robbery, Sergeant McMahon immediately visited the hotel and examined the premises. He found that the burglar had entered the hotel from the back yard, got through the window, burst open the passage door, and found his way into the bedroom where Mrs and Miss Coyle were sleeping. This was at 4 o'clock. Mrs Coyle, in a half-dreamy state, heard a noise in her bedroom, and at first thought it was a mouse among the papers. Suddenly, however, she saw a-human head, and was certain that human hands were busy at a chest of drawers. She immediately screamed out, and the fellow glided downstairs almost noiselessly, for he had neither hat upon his head' nor shoes upon his ieet. Sergeant McMahon arrived, and it \v;k discovered that the thief had nrnnnged to open the drawers and abstract ther^irom a pair of gold earrings, a gold niiri bi!\er watch, one or two gold rings, and other jewellery, to the estimated value of about L2O, as far as can be estimated. Serjeant McMahon, accompanied by Constable ( "ai - roll, at once went in pui'suit of the prisoner, and within an hour of the robbery, found him standing upright in an isolated place between Commercial and" Gore-streets.
