FIJI NEWS. [Per s.s. Penguin.]
Mr ARctfniiALD McGregor has ' been elected Warden of Suva by an overwhelming majority. The other candidate woe Mr Scott. It is understood that on the estimates for the ensuing year are the following -.—For ■ the erection of a new wharf at Levuka, [ £1,700 ; for the upkeep for Levuka wharves, £200, and for the purpose of assisting in the purchase of a recreation reserve for Levuka, • £200. - , The following report on a sample of tea grown by Mr 0. E. Mason, on his Alpha Estate, Taviuni, has been received by Messrs W. W. Forward and Co. from the Oriental Tea Company : " Leaf. — Poor and not properly sorted out. , Fermentation and manipulation rather irregular. Liquor very good. Infused leaf bright and equal to finest China Congos. Thoroughly pure and without a single bad or decayed lealf ; liquor, strong, pungent, and well flavoured, being similar to many Indian growths. The leaf itself being so good, we do not see why Fijian tea should not, with improvement in manufacture, rank with the best grown teas in the world."
