SUICIDE OF A THWARTED LOVER. Dunedin, December 3.

James Young, watchmaker, committed suicide at South Dunodin on Saturday. Deceased arrived in the colony about four months ago from Britain by tho British King, On his arrival ho went to live with his uncle, Mr Cunningham, at South Dunedin. Ho became attached to one of Mr Cunningham's daughters, but hiß suit was discoxiraged by his uncle. At 10 o'clook Mr Cunningham was told what tho deceased had threatened, and fcent for the police, who were intho house' and were making on- i quiries at the time that Young fired the first shot, ,which took effect in his ' throat.- The doceased ran from' the building and fired again, the shot penetrating his right brgast. • Young wrote this letter, addressed* to a reSorter:— "I, have done the deed myself, all irough love. Blame my fridnds, for I died all through their fault. They promised me their daughter's hand, and withdrew their conBont. I cannot live without hor.
