The fighting was most desperate on both side«, but the Egyptian troops were outnumbered and completely annihilated by the rebels, who gave no quarter only one man escaping from slaughter.

THE LATEST. The force under General Hicks when the campaign ' against Soudan rebels opened some time back, consisted of 8600 infantry, and 1400 cavalry, and four batteries of artillery. It is not definitely known how many men were, dhvetly operating against the enemy prior to the recent dufuat. but it is supposed that fully 5000 were actually engugod in the battle.
