Dr. Hector's report on the Makara gold goes distinctly in. favour of Walker's contention that the cake of gold exhibited as the result of recent crushings at the Thames, did not come from Makara, The value *£ the gold obtained from the recent testing being £3 Us lid per oz., while that wliich was obtained from the Thames crushing was only worth £2 13s lid. From analysis Dr. Hector mado from samples recently obtained at Makara, the clips contain 9 per cent, of silver, but the samples clipped from the bar which wus obtained from the Thames crushing contained 52 per cent, which is in proportion to that which usually characterises gold obtained from the Thames. Tb Awamutu, Last Night. The Hon. John Bryce, Native Minister,, came hero last night, and remained up till noon at Lewis' Hotel. He talks of going 1 to Kihikihi, but is waiting probably for an invitation. No natives have visited him since his arrival. Tawhiao is away at Kawhia, and Walianui is at Mokau. Manga is at the Government House at Kihikihi. It is thought possible that nothing will be d©ne until next March meeting:. Trouble at Waotu is becoming more menacing, and a rupture is expected.
