MEETING AT WAIORONGOMAI.
. An adjourned meeting of house-holders and property-holders was held at Lawless' Hotel on Thursday evening last, for the purpose of considering and endorsing the action of the mooting on the previous week, when it was resolved to petition for the creation of a (Town BoarcU The advocates of the -formation of a* borough, including Waiorongomai within its limite, were invited to attend, and in response Messrs Wells, 3 Lavery, Pavitt, .Cuff, and Crump were present to give any explanation that might be needed. There were about eighty persona present. Mr C. Brown was voted to tho Chair. Mr P. Farguson explained to the meeting what had been done at the previous meeting, and supported the .view then takon that a Town Board would be most advisable to -.establish at Waiorongomai. Mr Wtfllsj'who was very well received, replied to the previous speaker, and gave his experiences as to the different working «£ the various systems of local self-govern-ment, and his address was listened to with great attention. He .recapitulated and added materially to the remarks he made this day week, in the Public Hall, and evidently convinced many of his hearers, that a borough was most suited to the requirements of the piace. A great many questions were asked, all of which he answered satisfactorily. Amongst others he was questioned as to the Piako County Council being willing to hand over the goldfields revenue to the proposed Borough. In reply he stated that the Council wished te hand over the field to the proposed borough, and to be relieved of the charge of the extreme end of their district. Their chief interests lay where thoy met, and they would be glad to find Te Aroha affairs locally administered. After the questioning had ceased, a resolution tii.it the meeting should be adjournod for a week was carried, but it was evident that those presefit were favorable t« the proposal for a Municipality. During the whole proceedings the uimosfc good feeling prevailed, and at the. conclusion cordial votes- of thaaks to Mr Wells and the Chairman were carried uuanimously.
