POLICE CASES. Wife Desertion — Joseph Williams was summoned for deserting his wife «nd family. He did not appear, and a warrant was ordered to is<«ue fur his appreh°n-iun. Prohibition Order. — Richard N. Blencowe was charged, on the information of his wife, Lucy Harriet Blencowe, under the Licensing Act, 1881, with injuring his health and wasting his substance by excessive drinking. She therefore prayed that a prohibition order, forbidding all licensed publicans in the counties of Piako, Thames, and the Borough of Thames from supplying alcoholic liquors to the said R. N. Blencowe. After hearing evidence, the Resident Magistrate made the required order. Civil Cases. — J. Farrell v. D. Morgan. Verdict by default for £30 9s lid, balance on building a cottage, and fo'gp.oda t-npplied. . ' -Verdicts by default were also given in the following cases : — E. Cameron v. J. Cook, £29 14s 6d, Mr Cuff for plaintiff ; P. Quinlan v. C. McLean, £21, Mr Cuff for plaintiff ; trustees in Campbells estate v. Reid, £11 ,17s 6d, Mr Campbell for plaintiff ; Allwood v. J. McGahan, £7, money lent, Mr Cuff for plaintiff ; R. Mackie ,v. C. McLean, £19, amount of dishonored cheque. Plaintiff asJ-ed for 'an immediate distress warrant, which was granted. A case, Bullock v. Quinlan, was struck out, as the summons had only been served on the previous day. Mr Cuff, who appeared for the plaintiff, said that the defendant had consented to this service. The Magistrate said that such service was illegal and no service at all, unless an ; affidavit was made that defendant was about to leave the colony. He also cautioned tha clerk against issuing any other summonses of the kind, whether the legal gentlemen engaged wished for them or not. Bullock v. Burke, Mr Cuff for plaintiff. • This was a judgment summons to reecover £'6 amount due by defeudant to plaintiff a- receiver on behalf the Bonanza Company. Kent applied to the Supreme;: Court and obtained a writ of prohibition! on that ground, and further brought an, action for false imprisonment against Mr' Shaw. A disputed account case, adjourned from the previous' Court.
