A CONTRADICTION.

TO THB EMTOB. "Sib. — As a widespread report has been circclated that the ShaftesWy Temperance Hotel is to be changed to a licensed public-house, I shall be obliged by your allowing me to say that there is no foundation for the statement. As an abstainer and a wsrm advocate of the •cause of temperance, I not only would not let the building for the purpose, but am prepared in common with the great majority of Shaftesbuiy settlers to oppose any licensed bouse being opened in this district, and if local option if anything more than a name, I trust it will be many .years before we hare one here.— l am, Ac, R. Y. Cox. jShaftetbury, 22nd June, 1883.
