TE AROHA BAND OF HOPE

Thr third meeting of the above society was held on Monday evening in the. Wealeyan Chapel at 7 p.m. Mr G. Devey occupied the chair, and about sixty were present. After the usual preliminaries,' a programme of considerable length woa gone through, consisting of readings, recitations, dialogues, and songs. , Aprizp having been offered for the beat delivered piece, bearing on the temperance cause, considerable interest \va» evinced amongst" the juveniles with regard to the result. It was awarded to Miss Fanny Huxtable, who rendered with considerable taste the song ' Drink from the Well.' After the general meeting was concluded, a special meeting was- held for the purpose of electing officers to carry on the work; Mr W. Ash by as secretary and treasurer, and Mr J. Ilott as super in Undent were unanimously elected, the election of a committee being adjourned for a week. Future meetings are intended to be held . on alternate Monday evenings in the Wesleyan Chapel, and are open to the public. Since. .May 30th, when the first meeting was held, more than fifty adults and juveniles have joined. Although all do "not hold the same opinions as the members of this body as to the need of total abstinence, still it must be granted those who endorse that view have no reason to complain of the success of their efforts in* IV Arohn, and the number of their adherents » is increasing throughout the district.
