TAIHAPE ATHLETIC CLUB.
SPORTS TO-MORROW. The annual sports meeting of the .. Taihape Athletic Club will be held to-morrow, Ist January, on the Recreation Ground. The sum of £l5O has been allotted as prize money for. the various and in addition there is, a sum set aside for pfrizes for the various children's events. The principal events on the programme include chopping?- sawing, athletic, horse events, and Fire Brigade events. The athletic events comprise distances from 75 yards to one mile. - and the prize money offered should attract a large number of competitors. The axemenfs events should * also attract keen competition, and intending competitors may rely on every arrangement being made for their convenience. In addition to the cash prizes in these events, there are also a number of trophies, V which have attracted a number of competitors desirous of win. ning trophies which atre permanent reminders of their wins. The cash prizes and trophies for the horse events ape of such a nature that the competition in this class should be particularly keen. All who are desirous of spending the 'New Year holiday in a thorough|K\y enjoyable manner should make a of being present at this meet-
- ing. The special tirain arrangements - are such that visitors from Marton and intermediate stations will be V. able to make the trip, and a note should be made of the train services which aire advertised.
