THE TROUBLE AT FIUME
HEAVY CASUALTIES REPORTED. ROME, Dec. 28. The loyalists are closing in on Fiume. Some reports from Rome state that the regulars occupy the town. There has been considerable bloodshed, mostly around the barricades of barbed wire and fortified houses, where the insurgents made determined while the loyalists were hampered by Signor GiolittVs request to avoid unneessary bloodshed, and were compelled to storm machine_guns at the point of the bayonet. Had they been allowed to use artillery they would have taken, the town in a few hours, for they had overwhelming numbers.
