CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

MEETING OF COUNCIL. The mdhthiy meeting of the Council of thfe Chamber of Commqvee was held last night, when there were present: Messrs J. R. Cunninghaiue (chair) f J. G. Oldham, A. B Fannin, A. R. Munro, A. G. Lawson, A. Gifi ford, E. McLaughlan and the seCreI tary. The minutes of- the previous meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. Outward wa& read and approved and inward correspondence dealt, with as follows: From District Traffic Manager Ohakune, referring to the Chamber's further represenations with regard . to the loading bank at the goods shed and stating that he had received a report from the? stationmaster at Taihape in connection with the matter and could make no (recommendation; also advising that any further representation in connection with th matter be made to the stationmaster at Taihape. —Received. From Waimajrino County Council, stating that the Cahmben’s letter . with reference to proposed new hospiI tal district had been “received.” - From Rangitikei County Council re Chamber's representations in connection with Main South Road, and informing the Chamber that the Councils action would to a large extent be determined by the attitude of the Gpvcnment towards the main roads question.—Received. From Rangitikei County ; ICoffncil re hydro-electric power and repairing on what action had been decided at same.—The chairman reported that he had been one of the delegates attending the conference. He said that very little had been done except to considr the possibilities of' the scheme, and that no dfinite action could be taken until furthep reports had been obtained. Prom Post and Telegraph Department, Wanganui, re parcels delivery ? explaining that the number of parcels at Taihape did not wanrant such a delivery.—Received. Prom Wanganui Development Leai gue, enclosing circular showing •' amount of public .expenditure in Auckland district as compared with expenditure in other centres. No action taken.

GENERAL. With reference to the proposed new hospital the chairman reported that three had met the representatives of the Rangitikei County Council, in Confer(f ence and had agreed on a proposal regarding the southern boundary of the 'district, which would be near Ohingaiti. Of course, nothing definite could be decided but that would he, the recommendation which would be made. He thought the Kiwitea County Council should also be met, as it would be advisable to take in potrtion of the northern part of that County.—Resolved that the Kiwitea County Council be written to and a proposal regarding the portion of the County which should be included he submitted and approval, asked for Isame. —Carried. Re the installation of a public telephone box, the chairman explained that there w T as apparently a dif-

ference of opinion regarding the location of the box, but he understood " that it would be installed at once close # to the. Post Office building on the site originally marked out. Mr McLaughlan asked if any further communication had been received from the Commissioner of Crown Lands regarding the Omatane Block, p —lt was explained that the timber on the block would shortly be disposeU of by public auction. The meeting then adjourned.
