CRIME WAVE IN NEW YORK.
POLICE PROTECTION INADE- V QUATE. Received 9.50 a.m. WASHINGTON, Dec. 17. The number of robberies, burglaries hold-ups and murders in New York have increased to such an alarming extent that tlie silversmiths have protested to the Mayor, declaring that the police protection is inadequate, and demanding immediate protection. The organisation also plans to protest to the Governor of the State and create a body of vigilantes to protect jewellers’ interests. It is estimated hundred unsolved murders during the hundrd unsolved murders the year.
