President Wilson has accepted the Xotel Peace prize for 3919. A fire occurred on Monday evening in the premies on - L&mbton Quay owned by Gilmer and Me Guire and ossupied by Dromgool ,outfitter. The outbuilding was serious ly damaged, and a great portion of the stock was destroyed. The contents were insured.

A married couple, waitress, laundress, housemaids, farm youths > cooks and mill-hands arc advertised for. Owing to pressure on our space, a report of the Flower Show, and reports of other events havt* been held for publication to-morrow. The report of the consulting engineer on Main Street improvements is crowded out of this issue, but will be published .to-morrow.
A covered motor lorry will leave the Post Office at 7.20 p.m. to-day for Bcnnett/s Siding s where a social and dance in aid of the Soldiers’ Memorial Fund is being held, A reminder is given of the conversazione at the Town Hall to-night as a farewell to Mr and Mrs J. F. Thurston, who are leaving the district. The public are cordially invited to attend, and children and ex-pupils are especially invited. There is no charge for admission. ■ At the conclusion of the Council business last evening, Cr. Cunning--hame took advantage of the opportunity on behalf of the Councillors to wish the Mayor and Borough Staff a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. The compliment was reciprocated by the Mayor, and in its application to the staff he lieartily endorsed it.
Before commencing the business at the Baraugh Council last night. His Worship the Mayor referred to the death of an ex-Councilfor and an honoured citizen in the person of Mr R. Healey. He said that Mr Healey had been a Councillor for many years, and his straight-forwardness and honesty of purpose had always been appreciated by the ratepayers and by his fel-low-councillors. He moved that appreciation of the Tate Mr Healey’s services as a Councillor and a citizen be recorded on the minutes, and that a message of condolence be sent to the relatives of the deceased. The rhotion was carried in silence the Councillors standing.
