AMUSEMENTS.

PICTURE NOTES. (By the Film Fiend.) What a wonderful resemblance there is between Connie Talmadge and Louisa Huff in the present star “T’other Dear Charmer,” now showing at the Town Hall. By the way, it’s a great picture ; it’s a pity it can’t be kept here longer. Betty Compson, heroine of ’‘The Miracle Man,” appears in her own production, “The Devil’s Trail,” here shortly. It is a rattling good story of the N. West mounted police amongst a lawless element. Alice Joyce’s next feature deals with mother love. It is said to be one of those stories that “get hold” of one and pulls hard at the heart strings. Eugiue 0 ’Brien will appear here shortly in “The Broken Melody.” This feature is packing the theatres everywhere. Thirteen is said to be an unlucky number, but anyhow a rattling serial “The Mystery of 13” seems to be taking on. Why not here? Mildred H. Chaplin put one over Charlie: she got her divorce and now C-ht ’„ after her share of Charlie’s fortune.

Small Child: '"’"Will Charlie Chaplin, go to Heaven?” Mother: “If he is good, dear.” Small Child: “ Won’t God laugh when he comes in! ’’ Big Bill Russell’s next ‘feature is 4 4 All the world to nothing. ’ ’ There’s plenty of fight in it for the small big boys. TAIHAPE ATHLETIC CLUB. ANNUAL SPORTS MEETING. The annual sports meeting of the Taihape Athletic Club will be held on the Recreation Ground on Saturday, Ist January, 1921. A first-class programme has been prepared, special train arrangements have been made, and exceptionally good prizes are being offered. Given fine weather, the success of the gathering should be assured, and those who have been considering how they will spend their holidays will be well advised to set apart New Year’s Day for a visit to the sports. The athletic, chopping, and other events on the programme should provide very keen competition, and all visitors will be well satisfied with their day’s outing. Intending competitors should apply to Mr A. M.< Ryan, the secretary, for programmes.
