1 .ISLAND SCHOONER WRECKED. Received 10 am, SYDNEY, TMs Day. The Oceania Rubber Company’s schoonJr Oceania was wrecked on the Banks Group. Two persons, including an unnamed trader at the Group, were drowned. AN UNPOPULAR SECRETARY. SYDNEY, This Day. The High Court heard argument in the application by the Seamen’s Union for an injunction against Walsh, Secretary of the Union, in the course of which counsel for the Union stated that the Union Executive Council wished to suspend Walsh because of alleged misappropriation of funds and gross'heglect of duty. The Judge announced that a »Full Court will be set up to hear the suit. THE GRAFT INQUIRY. SYDNEY,. This Day. The graft inquiry has concluded taking evidence. Mr Gann repeated his statement that Mrs Georgeson told him that £SOO was given for the purpose of shutting up the Wheat ComL mission. She added that he went to Melbourne in ordeirto put the case before his colleagues. 'SE amen’S 'Dispute. SYDNEY, This Day. The seamen have called a stopwork meeting for 7th inst. to discuss what are stated as domestic matters. It is known, however, that important business is coming under that heading. In the shape of a machine, the Agri-. > cultural Department tested the latest claim to a solution of the troublesome question of the sex of eggs. Of sixteen eggs, which 'the machine indicated all contained males, eight produced males and eight females. Of twentyfone others which the machine backed as females, thirteen yielded males and legit females. The report makes no comment.

The Women’s Organising Committee of the Australian Labour Party has adopted a suggestion to the effect that when shopping, Labour women should ask to be attended by Unionists only. THE GROSS CASE. SYDNEY, This Day. The petition for the restitution of conjugal rights in the Cross case was dismissed. (Petitioner was William Alfred Joseph Cross, who was an Anglican layreader, and who had won the D.C.M. and bar during the war. The marriage was a mixed one, the respondent being a Catholic. At the previous hearing petitioner admitted I having struck his wife, and respondent said her reason for not living with him was on account of his persistent cruelty.) OVERSEAS SHIPPING ASSOCIATION. SYDNEY, This Day. Mr A. W. Corry, director of the Commoonwealth Dominion Steamers of Australia and New Zealand', has been elected Chairman of the Overseas Shipping Association, in to Sir Owen Cox.
