DISTRICT NEWS.

OHUTU NOTES. On Saturday, a team of cricketers from the Obutu School paid a visit to Utiku and returned home in higft glee, having defeated the home team by 56 runs to 21. A week-end cricket match was played at the-Box Company mill, Married men v. Single, which resulted in a win for the married men by three runs and judging by the small number of points, I think the teams were very evenly matched. Last week we had some glorious weather, which wag much appreciated by every one after the long spell of rain and wind, and some of the farmers took advantage of it and made a start -with the .shearing, but last night's showers and to-day's Tain will put them back for a day or two. It is to be hoped that the weather will

| soon take up and let us have a littjle j summer before Christmas. I On Sunday night our little churcK ,was almost. full and some very nice singing and music was to be heard. Mrs Oliver and Miss Campbell sang a duet, also Miss Peas and Mr Lea and a violin solo was rendered by Mr • Smith, of Taihape. On the 15th inst. there is to be a school cncert in our school and a gooa programme is being got up. Half of the* programme is being rendered by the children. As the concert is in aid of the children's prize fund, we hope to have a bumper house.
