PROFITEERING IN TWEEDS.
WELLINGTON, Nov. 29. Judgment was given by Mr J. Si Evans, S.M., to-day in cases of alleged profiteering on the part of Wellington: woollen firms in the sale of colonial tweeds. The defendants Bing, Harris and Co., and Robert Wilson and Co., were charged with having sold certain, tweed saltings at an unreasonably high price. After referring to abnormal conditions of demand and supply during the war, and after the Magistate hel<j that the rates of profit charged hy defendants brought them within the penal clauses of the Act, and they must be convicted, he imposed a penalty of £IOO on each of three charges against Bing, Harris, and £2oo;each'on twocharges against Wilson and Co. The third charge against Wilson and Co-, was dismissed.
