The Sawmill Workers’ Union has decided to take a secret ballot on the question of declaring a strike as the employers refusing to alter the existing award. The question of affiliating with the Alliance of Labour was dement. COST OF LIVING. WELLINGTON, This day. . The Arbitration Court is hearing the applications of many Unions for the 9/ per week bonus, based on the cost of living statistics. Mr Pryor representing the Employers?’ Federation, said & the granting of the bonus would be a serious blow to many industries and would lead to serious unemployment, as it would involve the payment of five millions sterling annually. The Premier denied that the employers’ attitude was a challenge to Labour. The hearing is proceeding.
