SINN FEIN PLOT.
DESTRUCTION IN ENGLAND . PLANNED. DETAILED PLANS CAPTURED. LONDON, Nov. 25. The Irish Office publishes captured Sinn Fein documents containing detailed plans to destroy Liverpool dock gates and machinery by means of gc- j ligate, also sketches for the guidance; of gangs. It was proposed to ignite a i warehouse to start operations. Other j documents give details, with sketches,. for crippling the main power station at Manchester, which supplies the majority of the factories, trams, etc; also reports of a spy who made a close inspection. The spy describes the importance of the power station to Manchester industry, and shows details as to how destruction parties ought to proceed.
In connection with the Irish Office publication of captured Sinn Fein documents, revealing diabolical schemes to wreck power stations and docks at Liverpool, also the poAver-house at Manehestcr,p.t was hoped if the dock gates were destroyed the outrush of water would cause widespread damage to shipping. Destruction of the power, station in Stuart (Street, Manchester, would, according to the document, paralyse Manchester. The plan of campaign as regards Liverpool was to cut the telephones, overpower the dock police, open the gates, and then demolish the gate machinery by means of gelignite. It Avas estimated this would require twenty-three officers, tAvonty-seven engineers, and seventyfive rank and file. Preparations would occupy three weeks. Officers would reside in the vicinity for a Aveek. The schedules contain a list of the docks,* ho aw to destroy ‘ them, the men required, how the docks are at present protected guarded, how to deal with the guards, how to approach. For example, the Canada dock was allotted to ten men with one hundred pounds of gelignite. Attempts were made to calculate the time necessary to empty the docks by such methods. Instructions were given as regards the most vulnerable portions the machinery, and how various parts could be destroyed. Sketches Avere drawn of the dockyards, showing the method and material of construction, and Avhat weight of explosive, Avould be required for each hinge. It was proposed to detonate the charges electrically. In order to mask the approach and facilitate the escape of the gangs it was proposed to start fires in cotton and other warehouses half an hour ahead. The document relating to Stuart Street, Manchester, tells how the static nwas worked, the hours and shifts, ■with a sketch plan showing the position of vulnerable machanery'—for example. turbines and switchboards. It was proposed to cut the telephones, overpower the watchmen and admit motor bearin gtools, also to* round up the staff and workmen. Most detailed instructions were furnished, with sketches showing hoAv each destruction party would proceed, number of men in each party and what implements • were necessary.
Another document gives a report of a spy who toured the works one Sunday morning for an hour and a half. The same spy visited the vital pumping station at Clayton vale and supplied a report thereon.
