Received 12.20 p.m. MELBOURNE, This Day. ~ The Farmers’ Party, in the Assembly, challenged Ihe Government on the Address- in-Reply, on the grounds that they are dissatisfied with the policy. The Labour Party, nineteen strong, holds the key. THE BASIC WAGE. Received 12,20 p.m. MELBOURNE, This~Day. The basic wage decision fell with bombshell effect throughout the Com-" raonwtealth Industries. Mr Hughes' id lengthily explaining the ConTmissidiT’s findings in the House of Representatives, said the Government had rejected them. The full wage should not be paid to New South Wales workers in*,respect of efependeuts. The Government would consider a scheme with a basic wage of £4 per week, with an endowment of 12s weekly for each child. To obviate employers giving preference to single men, it is pro- | posed that employers shall pay a uniform rate i of £4 weekly, with a per ! capita amount for each employee, which will be pooled for endowment purposes. Mr. Hughes “added that the Commission’s findings, if given effect to, ! would result in economic resolution.
