THE LEAGUE OF NATIONS.
SCANDINAVIAN AMENDMENTS. FRANCE SUSPICIOUS. Received 9 a.m. LONDON, Nov. 9. The Morning Post’s Paris correspondent states that France is suspicious of Scandinavia’s proposed amendments to the League of Nations Covenant, which are included in the Geneva agenda, and provide for the admission of former enemy nations to membership of the League' of. Nations. Germany so far has not requested admission.

The Geneva meeting of the League of Nations will consider Bulgaria's application for admission to the League. No other enemy State has applied.

The agenda of the Geneva Conference includes the League’s budgets to the end of December; also the provisional estimates for 1921. ELIHU ROOT’S ATTITUDE. NEW YORK, Nov, 8. It is stated that Mr Root is opposed to renouncing the League, and was at variance with the views expressed by Mr Harding during the campaign. Mr Root’s position was stated in a cablegram from London, to Mr Harding last August. He said the attempt to abandon the Versailles Treaty would bring chaos, the entire loss of the results of the war, and general disaster involving the United States. He suggested that the League should he accepted with the Lodge reservations and other charges. ■
