RAILWAY TRUCK SHORTAGE
QUESTION IN*THE HOUSE. (Special to Times.) WELLINGTON, This Day. In the House Mr. B, W. Smith (Waianarino) asked the Minister of Bailways if he would not instruct his Department to revert to the methods used directly traffic was resumed after the railway “cut” to clear off the goods which had banked up on the Baetihi branch, and on the Ohakuns section as a result of “cut” No. 2. Mr. Smith stated that the Railway Department then sent an officer to Taihape to co-op elate with the sawmillers’ representatives, the outcome being that all the goods, firewood and sawn timber, accumulations during the two months’ “cut”, were cleared during the next two months, in addition to the timber and firewood produced during the latter two or, >in other words, the Department did four months’ work in two. Could the Minister see his way to again send mr officer, preferably the same one, to the district to assist in clearing away the large quantity of firewood and timber now stacked at practically every station? The Risht Hon. Mr. Massey fMinister of Railways) said he would be glad to sec if it was possible to comply with the honourable member’s request.
