ELEMENTS OF A TRAGEDY.
KNIFE AND POOL OF BLOOD. TAiHAPB CITIZENS STARTLINGFIND.
On going into the backyard of Ms premises this morningj a Taihapc business man was startled to come -across a pool of blood, with a blood-stain eu
knife lying near by, showing every indication that some dire deed, such as murder or suicide, had been committed in the dark of night. The citizen acted as anyone else making such a discovery would have acted, and promptly informed the police. Sergeant Matthews arrived on the scene with his usual promptitude, and set about making investigations for some time. He then announced to the .citizen that a killing had certainly taken place, and that if he had not known the facts he would have been just as much concerned as the citizen who had mane the discovery. The facts were that someone had purchased a live goose at the hospital stall on Saturday, and as the owner considered that a dead goose would be easier to take home, the dark deed was done in the backyard of the citizen’s premises. The knife had -Ither been overlooked, or fwas considered to have been too much soiled to take away.
