MEETING OF COMMITTEE.
' A meeting of the Hospital Carnivat Committee was held in the Town Hall 'I on Friday, November sth, 1920, Mr Cunninghame being eleetea to the I chair in the absence of Mr j There were present: Mesdarnes <jjfj ham, Richter, Emerson, Lawson, and Currie, Messrs A. Gifford,, E. T. Hill, the Revs. J. C. Loan and W. Lea and the secretary (Mr Swindells). Mr Aldridge attended later andasked to be excused on account of other business. An apology was tendered by Mr Dunbar for non-attend-ance.
- The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Inward correspondence wag dealt with as follows: s From W. Glenn, Esq?, M.P., forwardJ ing letter from the Hon. Mr Guthrie,, in which he expressed appreciation of an invitation to be present during the forthcoming carnival, and'that if it Were possible for him to be away from "Wellington on the dates mentioned, he would be only too please'd to attend, and would advise definitely Jater. From His Worship the Mayor, who intimated that he would be pleased tooccupy the cnair at the Sacred Concert to be. held in the Town Hall on the 7th inst. as Requested. From Commissioner of Taxes, stat- , ing that seeing the monies to be raised were to be devoted to the Hospital, no amusements tax would be payable for the forthcoming. concerts. From Mrs Pepper, Raketapauma, intimating that she would be willingto arrange for a supply of butter, etc. in aid of the PUnd. From Commercial Travellers' Association re arrangements for Saturday, —Secretary to supply information. From Chamber of Commerce re assistance on "People's Day," and regretting that as a body the proposal was beyond their scope. ; From same re entertainment of theHon.« Mr Parr during his proposed visit.—Suggested that the secretary supply the Information ; when definite plans are known. The question of Sunday collections was again under consideration, and it was decided to rescind the resolution passed on November Ist, and that a retiring collection be taken up at the churches on either the 7th or 14th, as convenient, and that collectors boappointed where required. The matter of arranging for collectors to -beleft with Mr Hill, v It was resolved that Messrs' Gifford and Hill be appointed a buying committee for parcels. . Resolved that the secretary notify - the various local bodies of the probable visit of the Hons.. Messrs Parrand Guthrie dur:ng the forthcomingCarnival. .■• . '• , ;
Mrs Emerson reported that all 'arrangements had been made to entertain the visitprs from Marton on the 9th inst., by.,the committee of the Ladies' Club,, ' It was suggested that if ptJsoftle the secretary make arrangements for a car service to the Hospital Grounds on the 10th inst. The organisers Messrs Hill and
Cunninghame, reported upon arrange- , nients made in the various districts, and that everything was in trim to successfully launch the appeal for the Hospital. Favoured by good weather conditions, the results, will fully justify the efforts. The following districts will „be presented by stalls at the Hospital Garden Party on Wednesday:—Hospital Stall. Hospital Staff; Utiku "Stall, Utiku ladies; General Stall, Ladies ot combined districts, of Taoroa, ' Pukeokahu Hihitahi, Turangarcre, Tiriraukawa; Fancy Stall, Ladies of Messrs Collinson ana Gifford's; Flower Stall, Mesdames Sinclair and Absolum. The stall of the Wainui ladies will be located in town*
The arrangement of stalls was l?ft to the secretary to provide for. Collectors will be arranged for by Mr mri. Mrs Oldham has donated a paintod panel to the fund. * The question of the disposal of " funds raised came up for discussirvr-. It. was explained that the monies sub- -' scribed must go through the Wanganui Board to secure the subsidy, but •'- assurance was given that the monies ■ collected will be devoted, to the Taihape Hospital. It was resolved that the Mayor be asked grant Thursday n half-day for the Council employees. iv was a*so suggested that the shops close at 11 o'clock on Thursday. (People's Day).
