GOVERNOR-GENERAL'S AD3E. LIEUT.-COLONEL ALLEN APPOINTED. WELLINGTON, Nov. 4. The appointment of Lieut.-Colonel Allen, of the Sixth (Hauraki) Regiment as aide-de-camp to the Governor-Gen-eral lias been approved by the Minisfer of Defence.
NEW IRON COMPANY. TO WORK PARAPARA. NEW PLYMOUTH, Nov. 4. The Onakaka Iron and Steel Company, formed to work Parapara ore, has been • floated, the whole of the capital required having been subscribed in the Dominion, chiefly by • ironmasters. The New Plymouth smelting plant will be transferred to Golden Bay, Nelson, and it is asserted that the iron will be On the market in six' months.
STEAMER KENNEDY ASHORE. WELLINGTON, Nov. 4. The steamer Kennedy is reported ashore on the South Spit, inside the Manawatu River. The vessel was coming out of the river from Foxton, bound ofr Wellington, when she got carried on to the spit. Her rudder and port propeller are*rlamaged, but it is expected she will foe refloated to-day. Repairs will have to be made before the vessel can resume her journey.
' 19 LAND AGENT'S COMMISSION. AUCKLAND, Nov. *. ~ Judgment was given to-day by Mr. W. J. Poynton, S.M., in a case brought by W. J. I. Fisher and F. Parkes (Mr. H. A. Horrocks) against Hugh Conway (Mr. Fleming) for £75 commission on the sale of a farm at Pokeno His Worship held that once a binding agreement for the sale of land was executed, the agent's commission was due, no matter what subsequent arrangements were made. It was necessary that there should be a conveyance or transfer. Judgment was given for plaintiff for the amount claimed, with costs.
ACCIDENTS & FATALITIES
CAR LANDS IN CREEK. FIVE PASSENGERS IN HOSPITAL. DANNEVIRKE, Nov. 4. A serious motor accident occurred at Waipatiki last evening. A car, driven by Mr. John McLean, and containing seven passengers, struck the end of Kereru Bridge, and landed upside down in the creek below. The occupnats had a miraculous escape from death. Five o;f them are now patients in Dannevirke 'Hospital. Those injured were: Mrs. W. Smith, pinned under car for a considerable time, bad scalp wound; Mrs. D. Meßeth, broken collarbone, bruise? and shock; Mrs. Pearce, sprained w.rists; Miss Pearce, aged four years, fracture of the base of the skull and other in juries; Miss Linton, aged 14, arm broken and injury to leg; two little children escaped practically Unhurt. The driver sustained bruises and shock, cuts on the face and head.
FARM LABOURER DROWNED. BLENHEIM, Nov. 4. Albert Edward Thompson, farm labourer, aged 50. was drowned at Portage, Marlborough Sounds, through falling into the water between a steamer and the wharf.
