FOUR YEARS FOR BURGLARY. WELLINGTON, Nov. 3. At the Supreme Court Robert Burgess, charged with breaking and. entering and theft, was sentenced to four- years' imprisonment. Elleii ..Dorothy Boys and Rupert Hatch were charged with the theft of clothing at Masterton. The case is proceeding.
ROADING ONGARUE BLOCK. WELLINGTON, Nov. 3.' The Minister of Public Works informs Mr Jennings" that the sum of £IB,OOO has been authorised by the Lands Department for roading the Ongarue Loan Block. This includes the construction of a road giving access from Waimihia to the block. The roading of this block opens up a hundred thousand acres of land, and settlers in the district will be gratified at the vote, which means the rapid advancement of the district.
STRUCK WITH AN AXE. WOMAN" DANGEROUSLY HURT. AUCKLAND, Nov. 3. As the outcome of a quarrel with her son, Mrs. Norah Spierpoint, of Henderson, wife of a tannery worker, received a Mow on the head with, an axe this morning, and now lies unconscious and in danger of death. Frederick Spierpoint, aged 23, was brought up in the Police Court this afternoon, charged with causing actual bodily harm to his mother, Norah Spierpoint. Accused, who is undersized, and walks with a limp, was remanded, for a week.
