JOURNALISTS’ DISPUTE.
SETTLEMENT ARRIVED "AT. WELLINGTON, Nov. I. The Wellington country journalists’ dispute was heard by the Conciliation Council to-day. A complete agreement was arrived at, and the parties passed a vote of thanks to the Commissioner (Mr. W. Newton) for the way in which he had handled the proceedings. > DETAILS OF SETTLEMENT. < WELLINGTON, This Day* , A full settlement has been arrived at between the Wellington country journalists and the employers in the Conciliation Council. The chief provisions being that wages of seniors are to be £6, 10s a week, and a bonus of 10s a week; generals, £5 10s a week; juniors, £4 for first year and £5 thereafter. Cadets are to receive £1 15s for the first year, £2 15s for second year, and £3 10s for the. third year; and casuals 12s 6d per half day and £1 per day. Readers are not to be included in the term “journalist”, but will receive £4 for the first year, and £4 10s thereafter, with 10 per cent, extra for night work. Grading: One jounalist, general; two journalists, one senior, one general; three journalists, one of each; four journalists, one senior, two generals, five journalists, two seniors, tgo generals, one junior. Cadets: One to every three or fraction of three journalists. Sub-editors are included in these grades.. Two weeks’ holidays on full pay to be granted annually. Preference of promotion is given to journalists who have passed the matriculation or an equivalent examination, and a test set by, the union in accurate reporting, paragraph writing, and interviewing. The agreement comes into force on November 15 for two years.
