On the eve of Cue poll in California on the anti-Japanese legislation question, Mr. Davis,' Under-Secretary of State, issued a statement outlining the State Department’s disposition on the law prohibiting Japanese from'holding laud. Mr. Davis said that the State Department had had numerous friendly candid discussioris “with the Japanese Ambassador, and that Hit is believed that he realises, as'we have sought to make clear, that no outcome of the Californian movement will be acceptable .to, the country fit large that does not accord with the existing applicable provisions of the law or with ,the national instinct of justice.*’
